Apr 10, Colombo: The Consumer Affairs Authority has issued a gazette notification announcing the Maximum Retail Prices for rice effective from 10 April 2020.

The Consumer Affairs Authority acting under the powers vested in it by Section 20(5) of the Consumer Affairs Authority Act, No. 09 of 2003 orders that "no producer, distributor or trader shall sell, expose or offer for sale or display for sale" above the Maximum Retail Prices for varieties of rice noted in the gazette notification.

Accordingly, the MRP of rice will be as follows:

Keeri Samba - Rs. 125/- per kg
White / Red Samba - Steamed/Boiled (excluding Suduru Samba) - Rs. 90/- per kg
White / Red Raw Samba - Rs. 90/- per kg
White / Red Nadu - Steamed /Boiled (excluding Mottaikarupan and Attakari)- Rs. 90/- per kg
White / Red Raw Rice- Rs. 85/- per kg
