Apr 08, Colombo: With donations of Rs. 97 million Wednesday, the COVID–19 Healthcare and Social Security Fund, established by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, has now reached Rs. 517 million, the President’s Media Division said.
Minister Chamal Rajapaksa today handed over Rs. 29.5 million donated by the institutions under his ministry to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
Minister Janaka Bandara Tennakoon handed over Rs. 2.8 million donated by the Registrar General's Department and Cabinet Minister SM Chandrasena donated his April ministerial salary to the President.
Other donation made to the fund today include, Rs. 10 million from Unilever Sri Lanka Limited, Rs. 5 million from Postgraduate Institute of Management, Rs. 2 million from Kirama Wimalajothi Thero's Buddhist Cultural Center, Rs. 10 million from the Attanagalla Raja Maha Viharaya and Rs. 3 million from the Malalasekara Foundation.
As of this afternoon, the deposit balance of the COVID-19 Health and Social Security Fund had exceeded Rs. 517 million.
A special account had been opened at the Corporate Branch of the Bank of Ceylon under the account number of 85737373 to receive funds. Local as well as foreign donors have made their contributions to the Fund.
Donations to COVID – 19 Healthcare and Social Security Fund have been exempted from taxes and foreign exchange regulations. Deposits can be made through cheques or telegraphic transfers.
