* IUSF undergraduate arrested for false Facebook report related to COVID-19

Apr 02, Colombo: A member of the Inter University Students Federation (IUSF) has been arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and remanded for allegedly spreading falsehoods related to the COVID-19 pandemic via social media network Facebook.

The police allege that the student has posted false information in Facebook that the Kotelawala Defense University Faculty Hospital has been reserved for elite persons suspected to be contracted with the coronavirus.

Colombo Additional Magistrate Kanchana Neranjala de Silva remanded the suspect until April 09 when he was produced before the court today.

It was revealed in court that the suspect Tharindu Anushka was a final year student of the Peradeniya University.
