Sept 18, Colombo: Minister of Justice and Prisons Reforms Thalatha Athukorala appreciated the prison officers who found the mobile phones and chargers taken to the underworld leader jailed in the Boossa high security prison.
Minister Atukorala apprciated the prison officers for their diligent action in finding two mobile phones and chargers taken to the underworld leader Kanjipani Imran on 12th September.
The Minister accorded special appreciation certificates to Assistant Superintendent of the Boossa Prison, LPM Karunaratne, Prison guards TOK Ratnayake, ADTK Ariyadasa, ADLN Mendis, AG Chaminda Jayasiri and YPL Sampath at a ceremony at the Ministry of Justice and Prison Reforms yesterday (17).
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister of Justice said that it is a good practice to appreciate such brave officers in order to avoid misunderstandings in the society regarding prison officers.
The Minister said that the ministry would continue to appreciate and provide necessary encouragement to the officers who carry out such activities. She said that such actions would help to correct the allegations leveled at prison officers by the Prison Department itself.
Minister Atukorala added that those who perform their duties diligently add value to the department and will add further strength to the government's program to combat the drug menace.
Speaking at the occasion, the Commissioner General of Prisons, Jayasiri Wijayanath Tennakoon said that the manner in which these officers acted was an example to other officers.
The Commissioner General said he is confident that other officials will also follow the example and take action to strengthen the reputation of the department.
