Sept 13, Colombo: The six suspects arrested in connection with the shooting of two police officers in Akuressa and stealing of two T-56 firearms from the Panadura Police have been remanded until the 25th of this month.
The suspects including two army soldiers attached to the Panadura Army Camp were arrested under the Terrorism Prevention Act and produced before the Acting Magistrate of Matara yesterday (12).
Meanwhile the three suspects who are suspected to have opened fire at the two police officers are due to be produced for an identification parade.
In early morning of September 06, two police officers of Akuressa police on night patrol had chased a suspicious motorcycle with three riders after they ignored an order to stop near the Thibbotuwawa Junction in Akuressa. The suspects had opened fire injuring the two officers and fled.
During investigations it was revealed that shooting had been committed with a T-56 firearm stolen from the Panadura Police Station.
