Sept 13, Colombo: A special discussion on getting the government acquired lands in Mullaitivu and Kilinochchi districts released as the first stage of President Maithripala Sirisena's program to release the land in the Northern Province was held Thursday (12) at the Kilinochchi District Secretariat Office, under the patronage of the Governor of Northern Province Dr. Suren Raghavan.
At the meeting, the Governor has instructed to appoint separate committees from each security forces division to specifically identify the private lands used by the security forces in the Northern Province.
The Governor has requested the Sri Lankans who own land in the North but live abroad to submit documents if they have any to prove their ownership of the land. The relevant application form can be obtained from the Northern Provincial Council website, np.gov.lk.
Accordingly, the second meeting on land clearance in the Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu districts will be held on the 26th of this month with the officials appointed to the committees.
As the second phase of the program, discussion on land clearance in the Jaffna district will be held on the 14th of this month at the Jaffna District Secretariat. Arrangements have been made discuss the release of lands in the Mannar and Vavuniya Districts under the third stage.
Officers of the Armed Forces, Police Officers, Land Ministry Officers, Survey Department Officers, Members of Parliament, Mavai Senathirajah, Charles Nirmalanathan, Shanthi Sri Skandaraja and Sivagnanam Sri Dharan participated in the discussion.
