* Education Ministry to admit 8000 student teachers to National Colleges of education

Sept 12, Colombo: The Ministry of Education has made arrangements to admit 8,000 student teachers to National Colleges of Education for two academic years on the 25th of this month. All selected candidates will be notified by post by September 20th.

Based on the results of the GCE (A/L) Examination in the years 2016 and 2017, these 8,000 students will be recruited to the 19 National Colleges of Education in one day.

Accordingly, students will be recruited for the 2018/2020 academic year based on the 2016 A /L results and for the 2019/2021 academic year on 2017 A /L results.

The 8,000 students were selected for the admission to the Colleges of Education out of three times the number of students interviewed according to the Gazette Notification issued on January 25, 2019.

The students group has been selected by the Teacher Education Branch of the Ministry of Education accurately and systmenatically through a complex screening process.

This is the first time in the history of the College of Education that two sets of academic years will be carried out simultaneously with the enrollment of 8,000 student teachers.

Therefore, the Minister of Education, Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has instructed the officials to provide all necessary facilities to the students of the national Colleges of Education and take steps to ensure the success of their studies.
