* Visiting Saudi Speaker looks to strengthen relations between Sri Lanka and Saudi Arabia

Sept 11, Colombo: The Speaker of Saudi Arabia's Shura Council (Parliament), Sheikh Dr. Abdullah Al-Sheikh meeting with Sri Lanka's Prime Minister has expressed hope to further strengthen the bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Saudi Arabia.

Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday received the Saudi Speaker Dr. Abdullah Al- Asheikh currently on a visit to Sri Lanka on an invitation from his Sri Lankan counterpart, Karu Jayasuriya.

At the beginning of the reception, the Sri Lankan Prime Minister praised the Kingdom's successes in confronting the forces of terrorism, which are trying without success to harm the Kingdom's security, capabilities and citizens, expressing his thanks to the Kingdom for its efforts in serving pilgrims of his country,

The Premier has praised what was discussed during the visit between the Sri Lankan Parliament and the Shura Council at various levels to enhance bilateral cooperation, according to the official Saudi Press Agency.

For his part, the Speaker of the Shura Council said that the visit comes within the parliamentary diplomacy being carried out by the Shoura Council to strengthen relations between the two countries, looking forward to increasing mutual visits between the two countries at all levels.

The meeting was attended by the delegation accompanying the Speaker of the Shura Council and Saudi Ambassador to the Republic of Sri Lanka Abdul Nasser Al-Harthy.
