Sept 10, Colombo: The Ministry of Agriculture says that wheat flour companies have agreed to drop the recent price hike and to sell wheat flour at the old price with immediate effect.
Wheat flour companies had agreed to sell wheat flour at the old price at the Cost of Living Committee meeting chaired by Agriculture Minister P. Harrison Tuesday.
The Cost of Living Committee said the Wheat flour companies were given a three-week period to explain their decision to increase the price of wheat flour.
Companies had increased the price of a kilogram of wheat flour by Rs 5.50 on last Friday (September 06).
Following the measure, the government took immediate action to address the issue while the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) stressed that legal action would be taken against the traders who increase the flour price without its approval.
Representatives from the Wheat flour companies were called before the Cost of Living Committee today (10) to show cause on the price hike.
