* Prime Minister requests people's mandate to abolish executive presidency, solve ethnic issue
Tue, Sep 10, 2019, 11:22 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Sept 10, Colombo: Sri Lanka Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe asserted that he will definitely fulfill his promise to abolish the executive presidency and provide a political solution to the ethnic problem in the future.

The Prime Minister said people's mandate is expected to form a strong government with a majority of power in order to fulfill the said promises.

The Premier made this observation at a ceremony held at the Temple Trees today to award selection letters to 1200 applicants who qualified to teach Sinhala, Tamil and English under the National Program for Orientation of Language Trainers

The Prime Minister further said that although the many promises given during the years 2014 and 2015 have already been fulfilled by the current administration, the United National Front government did not have the majority it needed to abolish the executive presidency.

He said abolishing the executive presidency will be a priority in the future and request the people to support the measure.
