* Two police officers injured in shooting

Sept 06, Colombo: Two police officers have been injured when unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire near the Thibbotuwawa Junction in Akuressa.

The two police officers who were injured in the shooting which occurred at around 1 am this morning have been admitted to the Matara General Hospital.

According to the police, the two officers who were on night patrol have signaled a suspicious motorcycle to stop. The riders have ignored the order and fled the scene. When the officers pursued them, the pillion rider has opened fire at the police officers.

Investigations are underway to find the suspects.
