* Airport Duty Free shop employee arrested with 40 gold biscuits

Oct 20, Colombo: An employee of a Duty Free shop at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake has been arrested for trying to smuggle out gold biscuits weighing four kilograms.

Sri Lanka Customs officials today arrested the airport employee who was carrying 40 gold biscuits, each weighing 100 grams in pockets on both sides of his trousers.

It has been revealed that a passenger who had arrived at the airport on a flight has given the gold biscuits to the suspect at the transit passenger terminal.

The arrested employee is a 36 year old resident of Colombo. The stock of gold biscuits which the suspect had attempted to smuggle was estimated to worth Rs. 32 million.
