* SLFP not to join Gotabhaya's election rallies
Sat, Oct 19, 2019, 12:28 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Oct 19, Colombo: General Secretary Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), parliamentarian Dayasiri Jayasekara says the party will not participate in the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) propaganda rallies even though SLFP has come forward to support the SLPP presidential candidate Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

Speaking to media after the SLFP Central Committee meeting yesterday, the General Secretary said the decision was taken due to the harassment faced by SLFP members during the SLPP campaign rallies.

"As the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), we have organized more than 5,000 meetings to support Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. In addition, it has been decided to inform the SLFP members going from house to house. However, we are not ready to stand on the SLPP stage and join them," he said.

MP Jayasekara said the party is not of the view that it will be helpful for the SLPP campaign. "We don't even think it'll work. We will carry out propaganda at the grassroot level," he added.
