Oct 18, Colombo: The ballot papers for postal voting in the Presidential Election were handed over to the Department of Posts, for distribution, today (October 18).
The Election Secretariat said issuance of postal ballot papers was carried out successfully at 987 centers in the 25 districts, today under tight security.
A total of 659,117 public officials and military personnel are eligible to cast postal votes.
Marking of ballot papers will take place on the 31st of October and the 1st of November, whilst the 4th of November has been set aside for police personnel and officials at district secretariats and at the election office to cast their postal votes.
Those who fail to cast their postal votes on both given dates, can alternatively cast their postal votes on the 7th of next month.
Meanwhile, Police Media Spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekara said a special security plan will be in force around post offices, when ballot papers for postal voting are being distributed.
