Oct 17, Colombo: Expanding facilities at National Colleges of Education, measures have been taken to recruit for the first time 8000 students to the colleges.
According to the instructions of the Minister of Education, Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, steps have been taken to recruit 8,000 students in two groups based on the A / L results of 2016 and 2017 to the National Colleges of Education to follow the Diploma in Teaching Science.
Accordingly, the enrollment of these students to 19 National Colleges of Education throughout the island commenced on 3rd October.
Admission of students to the National College of Education at Nittambuwa Sariputta, Addalachahenai and Batticaloa took place on 3rd October.
Students were admitted to Mahaweli, Siyane, Ruwanpura and Peradeniya Colleges on 15th October while admissions to National Colleges of Education in Vavuniya, Jaffna, Dharga Nagar and Sri Pada took place on October 16.
Students were admitted to the National Colleges of Education in Maharagama and Uva today, 17th of October.
Students will be admitted to Nilwala and Wayamba National Colleges of Education on October 24, while Dambadeniya Sariputta, Ruhuna, Hapitigama, Pasdunrata and Pulathisipura National Colleges of Education will admit students on October 28.
The orientation program for the Diploma in Teaching Science candidates will take place 18 days from the date of recruitment.
So far, between 3500 and 4,000 students were admitted to the National Colleges of Education.
As 8,000 students from two groups have been enrolled simultaneously, on the instructions of the Minister of Education, Rs. 430 million has been allocated to expand all infrastructure facilities including lecture halls, hostels, drinking water, and sanitation facilities at the National Colleges of Education.
