Mon, Oct 14, 2019, 10:57 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Oct 14, Colombo: A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed for the first cable car project in Sri Lanka to be built in Nuwara Eliya yesterday (October 13).

The relevant agreement was signed under the patronage of the Minister of Plantation Industries Navin Dissanayake, at the Nuwara Eliya Municipal Council premises.

The US$50 million cable car project in Nuwara Eliya to promote the Tourism Sector received cabinet approval in July 2019.

It is expected to further enhance the tourist attraction through the cable car project and earn a higher income.

Due to its high elevation and natural beauty Nuwara Eliya has been chosen to commence the cable car project as a further step towards increasing the tourist attraction in the area.

Outdoor Engineering Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. and its foreign partners Dopelme Cable Company have put forward a project proposal to commence the cable car project from Nanu Oya to Single Tree Mountain and Gregory Lake.

The project with an investment of around US$ 50 million is to build a cable car system on 21 towers connecting Nanu Oya train station, Nuwara Eliya race Course and the Single Tree Mountain. It is expected to operate 86 cars which can carry 10 passengers each. In the first stage 43 cars are expected to be built.
