Oct 12, Colombo: The final report of the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) appointed to look into the Easter Sunday terror attacks on April 21st will be presented to parliament on the 23rd of this month, the Chairman of the PSC Deputy Speaker Ananda Kumarasiri said.
Deputy Speaker Ananda Kumarasiri added that a press conference will be held on 24th October to inform the media on the facts of the report.
The PSC will meet on the 17th to prepare its final report.
The Parliamentary Select Committee to look into the multiple terrorist attacks on churches and hotels at several locations of the country on Easter Sunday and report to the parliament was appointed on 22 May 2019. The PSC held its first meeting on 29 May.
Deputy Speaker Ananda Kumarasiri was the Chairman of the 9-member Parliamentary Select Committee. The other members of the PSC were Ministers Dr. Rajitha Senaratne Rauf Hakeem and Ravi Karunanayake, parliamentarians Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka, Prof. Ashu Marasinghe and Dr. Jayampathy Wickramaratne from government side and TNA parliamentarians MA Sumanthiran and JVP Parliamentarian Nalinda Jayathissa representing the opposition.
During its term the Committee has recorded evidence from nearly 60 persons, including the President Maithripala Sirisena, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, State Minister of Defense Ruwan Wijewardene and several senior government officials including former Defense Secretary Hemasiri Fernando, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara, Minister Rishad Bathiudeen, former governors Azath Sally and MLAM Hizbullah, former Army Commander Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, current Defense Secretary General Shantha Kottegoda, Chief of State Intelligence Service Sisira Mendis, Attorney General Dappula de Livera, Central Bank Governor Dr. Indrajit Coomaraswamy and the three-member Presidential Commission that probed the attacks have testified before the Select Committee.
