* SLPP wins Elpitiya PS poll

Oct 11, Colombo: The overall results of Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha election have been released a short while ago.

As expected, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has secured the majority of the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha election wining 17 out of the 29 wards.

The SLPP obtained 23,372 votes securing 17 seats and the United National Party secured 7 seats after obtaining 10,113 votes.

The United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) received 5,273 votes gaining 3 seats while the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) came in last securing 2 seats with 2,435 votes.

A total of 53,384 voters were eligible to cast their votes at the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha election. Reportedly the voter turnout was about 55 percent.
