Oct 11, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Supreme Court today extended the stay order on Special High Court Trial-at-Bar preventing the trial of DA Rajapaksa museum corruption case against presidential candidate Gotabhaya Rajapaksa until December 20th.
A three-member Supreme Court bench headed by Justice Buwaneka Aluvihare, after considering an appeal filed by Mr. Rajapaksa, ordered the three-member High Court not to hear the case until December 20.
The Supreme Court has scheduled a hearing of Gotabhaya Rajapaksa's appeal on December 10.
The Attorney General filed charges against seven defendants including former Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, accusing him of misappropriating state funds amounting to Rs. 33.9 million to construct the DA Rajapaksa Commemorative Museum at Weeraketiya in Medamulana.
The seven accused had been charged under Section 5(1) of the Public Property Act and Section 388 of the Penal Code, the Prevention of Money Laundering Act and the Public Property Act.
