* Sri Lanka child authority requests not to use children for political activities
Fri, Oct 11, 2019, 08:24 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Oct 11, Colombo: The National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) of Sri Lanka has made a request to all the political parties and independent groups not to use children for election related work ahead of the Presidential elections next month.

The NCPA said at this time when the presidential election was announced, the authority has received information that children are being used for various political activities related to the upcoming election in violation of the rights of the children.

The Child Protection Authority points out that if children are subjected to physical and mental abuse by engaging them in political activities, it is a child abuse.

The NCPA urged the general public to provide information to its 24 hour ChildLine 1929 if such incidents occur.
