Oct 11, Colombo: The Sri Lanka Ministry of Education today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Savings Bank (NSB) to enhance the English education of the schoolchildren in the country and for students to achieve a better physical and mental balance through proper health practices.
Under the MoU signed between the Ministry and the NSB, the "English is simple project", which was planned to provide opportunities for students to learn English with practical experiences not limited to the textbook, will be implemented in the years 2020-2023 with the objective of enhancing the English language skills of the schoolchildren.
Under the MoU, it is also planned to implement the "I am Fit" project which aims to create a healthy student population while minimizing the incidence of non-communicable diseases among school children.
The English Language Unit of the Ministry of Education is in charge of the English Language Development Project and the Health and Nutrition Branch of the Ministry of Education is spearheading the Health Development Project.
Nihal Ranasinghe, Secretary to the Ministry of Education, Kithsiri Wijeratne, General Manager of the NSB, Lal Karunatilake, Deputy General Manager of NSB, and Hemantha Premathilaka, Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Education were also present at the occasion.
