* Thousands converge to Galle Face Green to ensure Sajith Premadasa's victory

Oct 10, Colombo: A river of people from all corners of the country converged to Galle Face Green today to affirm their support to the Presidential candidate of United National Party (UNP) led New Democratic Front Sajith Premadasa.

The inaugural rally of Sajith Premadasa's presidential election campaign was held at Galle Face Green today under the patronage of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe. The rally named as the "Rally of the Century" was attended by a huge crowd of over 500,000 people, according to some estimates. All MPs of the UNP and other parties in the United National Front were also present.

Addressing the inaugural rally, Premadasa said that a family cannot be given the opportunity of deciding the country's agenda and pledged to protect the country's identity while ensuring development.

He said no one can be allowed to misuse public property as in the past and no one will be given the opportunity to engage in fraud corruption. He added that development projects that would solve the problems of the people would be launched.

Presidential candidate Premadasa said Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka will be granted the highest office related to national security and terrorism will be totally eliminated.

Presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa called on the nation to join hands with him to build a country with pride.
