Wed, Oct 9, 2019, 12:37 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Oct 09, Colombo: The Colombo High Court today overturning the order given by the Colombo Magistrate's Court to grant bail to Inspector General of Police Pujith Jayasundara and Former Defense Secretary Hemasiri Fernando ordered their arrest.

Colombo High Court Judge Vikum Kaluarachchi issued the order deciding on a revision petition filed by the Attorney General against granting bail to Jayasundara and Fernando.

The High Court Judge further ordered that the suspects Hemasiri Fernando and Pujith Jayasundera be remanded.

Colombo High Court Judge Vikum Kaluarachchi stated that the Colombo Chief Magistrate had issued a bail order in violation of the law, creating a power she does not have.

The two former top officials were accused of failing to take measures to prevent the Easter Sunday attacks despite having prior knowledge of the attack, and remanded on charges of criminal negligence and murder.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne stating that there was insufficient evidence to substantiate the murder charges against them granted bail to the suspects on 9 July.

The Attorney General on July 18th filed a revision application requesting the Colombo High Court to issue an interim order against the granting of bail by the Colombo Magistrate's Court to Fernando and Jayasundara.
