Oct 08, Colombo: The Chairman of the Election Commission Mahinda Deshapriya says that the ballot paper of this year's presidential election on November 16 will be two feet long.

"This is the longest ballot paper in the history of the country," he said at a meeting with media institutions.

A record 35 candidates submitted nomination papers yesterday and the Election Commission accepted all the nominations.

The Election Commission Chairman said parades and demonstrations are banned for a week after the nominations. Also only up to eleven persons are The Chairman also said that more than 11 persons are banned from traveling together for awareness campaigns.

All candidates have been given permission to display their banners and posters around the country only for the inaugural campaign rally. However, posters for subsequent rallies would be allowed only in the particular area where the rally is held.

Demonstrations are also banned for a week after the election results are issued.

Meanwhile, propaganda regarding the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha election will end from midnight today. The polls will be held on October 11.
