Oct 08, Colombo: General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) parliamentarian Dayasiri Jayasekara says the SLFP's stance on the upcoming presidential election will be announced tomorrow (09).
During the discussions held earlier the Central Committee of the SLFP had vested the power to take a decision with the leader of the party President Maithripala Sirisena.
President Sirisena has decided not to seek a second term and the SLFP did not field a candidate for the 2019 presidential election to be held on November 16.
The party held several round of discussions with the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) led by the former president and Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa on forming an alliance to contest the presidential elections.
However, the SLFP or the President has not yet made a decision to support the SLPP candidate former Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
President Sirisena has earlier said that no one can win the presidency without the support of the SLFP.
