* Two OICs interdicted for spreading false information on national security
Tue, Oct 8, 2019, 09:56 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Oct 08, Colombo: Two Officers-in-Charge (OICs) of the Fort Police have been interdicted for allegedly circulating false information regarding national security.

The OIC of the Crimes Division and the OIC of the Administration Division were interdicted for delivering letters to several tourist hotels in Colombo, with false and unconfirmed information on national security

The OIC's have sent out false and unconfirmed reports on the 2nd of this month, the Police Headquarters said. The letters warned of another possible coordinated attack similar to the Easter Sunday bomb attacks on April 21 targeting hotels and churches and requested the authorities to be vigilant.

The special investigation unit of Police last week launched an investigation into a letter as the state intelligence service has not confirmed the content of the letter.

Initial investigations have revealed that the accused officers had acted to send the letter containing false information.
