Tue, Nov 19, 2019, 11:36 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Nov 19, Colombo: Former Defense Secretary Hemasiri Fernando and suspended IGP Pujith Jayasundara have been remanded further until December 03 by the Colombo Magistrate's Court.

The two former top officials have been accused of failing to take measures to prevent the Easter Sunday attacks despite having prior knowledge of the attack, and remanded on charges of criminal negligence and murder.

The suspects were produced before Colombo Additional Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage today by prison officers.

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) had informed the court that they had obtained information about the phone calls of the former Defense Secretary and the Inspector General of Police.

Investigations have revealed that the former Defense Secretary and the Inspector General of Police had no connection with the suspects who were arrested or killed in connection with the attacks on Easter Sunday.

Police also said that investigations into the bank accounts of the suspects have also been carried out and Hemasiri Fernando has not run any Bank account.

The update was given by the CID after reviewing records received from 73 financial institutions and Banks. However, it was revealed that Pujith Jayasundera had carried out financial transactions with five out of 73 financial institutions examined. The Police are conducting further investigations.

After considering the submissions, the magistrate ordered that the suspects be remanded until the 3rd of next month and the CID was ordered to submit a report on the progress of the investigations on that day.
