* Sri Lanka ruling party parliamentarians to meet today to decide on government

Nov 18, Colombo: Following the victory of the opposition candidate, Gotabhaya Rajapaksa at the 2019 presidential elections, all members of parliament of Sri Lanka's ruling party will meet this afternoon to decide on the next step for the government led by the leader of the ruling United National Party (UNP) Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Minister Mano Ganesan has told the Sinhala daily Lankadeepa, that a group of government MPs headed by Prime Minister Wickremesinghe will meet at the Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte Parliamentary Complex today at 2 pm to take a final decision.

Minister Ganesan said the decision was taken at a meeting of cabinet ministers representing the government held at Temple Trees under the patronage of Prime Minister Wickremesinghe Sunday (17).

He added that all the leaders of parties in the New Democratic Front (NDF) and cabinet ministers except the NDF presidential candidate Minister Sajith Premadasa were present at the yesterday's meeting.

During the meeting, the President elect Gotabhaya Rajapaksa's people's mandate at the Presidential election was discussed at length, Minister Ganesan said adding that the Ministers have requested the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to hold discussions with the new President.

He also said that the final decision on whether to quit the government or support a general election would be taken when the government MPs meet this afternoon.
