* MP SB Dissanayake's security officers who shot at youths remanded

Nov 07, Colombo: Two police officers of the Ministerial Security Division (MSD) who were arrested this morning in connection with the shooting of two youths in Polpitiya area in Ginigathhena have been remanded till 11th.

The two MSD police officers were part of the security detail of parliamentarian SB Dissanayake. When the parliamentarian was traveling in Polpitiya area in Ginigathhena after a political rally, his security vehicle has collided with another private vehicle on the road.

According to Police Media Spokesman, following the minor collision, a heated argument has erupted between the security officers and the occupants of the other vehicle escalating into shooting by the police officers at the unarmed youths.

One of the two youths injured was rushed to the Karawanella hospital while the other was admitted to the Ginigathhena hospital.

The two officers along with the two pistols used to shoot were arrested this morning.

The suspects, police constable Janaka Premasiri (49559) and Duminda Lakmal (50391) of the Ministerial Security Division were produced before Hatton District Judge and Magistrate J. Strosky and remanded until the 11th November.

The magistrate ordered that the two suspects be produced for an identification parade on the 11th.
