* Term of Presidential Commission probing corruption and fraud extended

July 16, Colombo: President Maithripala Sirisena in an Extraordinary Gazette notification has announced that the term of the Presidential Commission probing corruption and fraud was extended by two and a half months from 14th July.

The gazette notification said the President enlarged the time for rendition of the final report on completion of the tasks assigned to the Commission.

The Commission of Inquiry was appointed by President Sirisena on 17th January to "investigate and inquire into acts of corruption, fraud, criminal breach of trust, criminal misappropriation of property, cheating and abuse or misuse of power or authority, state resources and privilege which offences and acts of wrong doing had allegedly occurred during the period 15th January, 2015 to 31st December, 2018."

The five-member Commission is headed by retired High Court judge Upali Abeyratne. The other members include retired High Court Judge Sarojini Kusala Weerawardena, retired Auditor General P.A. Pemathilaka, former Ministry Secretary Lalith R. de Silva and former DIG M. K. D. Wijaya Amarasinghe.
