Tue, Jul 16, 2019, 02:58 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

July 16, Colombo: The Administration of the Ruhuna University has decided to reopen three faculties located at the Wellamadama complex tomorrow (17), Vice Chancellor Senior Professor Sujeewa Amarasena said.

Accordingly, the Faculty of Science, the Faculty of Fisheries, Marine Science & Technology and the Faculty of Graduate Studies will be reopened for academic activities.

The administration stated that students can come to the hostels from noon today.

The University of Ruhuna was closed indefinitely on the 10th of July after a group of students protesting security measures clashed with the non-academic staff and damaged the university property.

Ten students and an employee of the university were injured in the clash and admitted to the Matara General Hospital.

Police and army personnel were deployed to beef up security at the university due to the tense situation.
