July 14, Colombo: A person, who made a false call to the 119 telephone center of the Police Emergency service claiming an attack on the Parliament on Friday night, has been arrested by the police.

The suspect who had telephoned 119 number had said that an attack targeting the parliament is set to take place and eight people have planned the attack inside a mosque in Pettah, Police Media Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara said.

Immediately after receiving the information, investigations have commenced headed by the Colombo Central Division Superintendent of Police Nishantha Soysa.

Acting on the tip-off, the police had raided the said mosque only to find that the information provided was false. The man who provided false information was arrested yesterday at the Ella Police Division. He is a 53 year old resident of a rented house in Ella.

Police investigations have revealed that he had purchased the SIM card using the national identity card of the owner of the rented house.

Police Media Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara said that the suspect is being held at the Fort police station for further investigations.
