* President to hand over land deeds to 5000 Mahaweli farmers tomorrow

July 13, Colombo: A national program is being implemented under the guidance of President Maithripala Sirisena to grant land ownership rights to every settler in the Mahaweli land.

Presentation of land permits to 5000 Mahaweli Farmers in the Walawe Zone will be held tomorrow (14) at the office grounds of the Residential Business Manager of Walawa zone under the patronage of the President.

The program commenced in 2016 on the advice of the President, addressing a long standing problem of the Mahaweli settlers, has now reached its final stage.

Accordingly, 46,609 land deeds and licenses in Mahaweli B zone, 47,808 land deeds and licenses in the C-Zone, 5,305 land deeds in the D-Zone, 22,537 in the H-zone, 14,372 in the L-zone, 4,848 in the Victoria zone, 5,167 in Huruluwewa zone, 9,463 in the Moragahakanda zone, 43,718 in the Waiawa zone and 5,854 in the Rambaken Oya zone have been granted to the recipients.

A number of programs have been implemented in the past four years under the guidance of the President for the wellbeing of the Mahaweli residents and to uplift their lives. A special program has been implemented to convert the Mahaweli Zones into Drug Free Zones.
