July 13, Colombo: Sri Lanka Police have arrested 2,540 drivers during a month-long special operation launched island wide last week to nab people driving under the influence.
Special operations to arrest drunk drivers was launched on the 5th of this month to minimize road accidents.
The Police Spokesman's Office stated that 260 drunk drivers have been arrested during the past 24 hours ended at 6 am Saturday.
The fine for driving under the influence of alcohol has been increased to Rs. 25,000.
