* No Confidence Motion against Sri Lankan government defeated

July 11, Colombo: No Confidence Motion (NCM) against the government of Sri Lanka brought by the opposition Marxist party, Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) was defeated in Parliament with a majority of 27 votes a short while ago.

"The Vote of No Confidence on the Prime Minister, Cabinet and Government was negatived by the House after having taken a division," parliament announced.

When the vote was taken at 6 pm today after two days of debate 119 members voted against the motion while 92 members voted in favor.
