* Ruhuna University closed indefinitely
Wed, Jul 10, 2019, 08:00 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

July 10, Colombo: The administration of the Ruhuna University has decided to indefinitely close all the faculties in the Wellamadama area.

The administration has taken this decision after a group of students behaving in an unruly manner clashed with the non-academic staff and damaged the university property.

At a meeting between the Vice Chancellor Professor Sujeewa Amarasena and the Deans of all the Faculties the decision was taken in order to protect the lives of other students and employees.

A group of students had staged a protest blocking the university's administrative building over the security measures implemented at the university.

The students have clashed with university non-academic staff and security personnel on two occasions yesterday. Ten students and an employee of the university were injured in the clash and are currently receiving treatment at the Matara Hospital.

At present, police and army personnel have been deployed to provide security to the university.
