Dec 26, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) says former Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne who has been issued a court order for his arrest, has disappeared from his residence yesterday (25).
A team of Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officers had gone to the residence of MP Rajitha Senaratne at Bauddhaloka Mawatha in the early hours of yesterday to arrest him after informing the Speaker Karu Jayasuriya in writing.
Upon learning of his absence, the police team has searched three other residences of the former minister. As he was not in those, CID officials have checked several other places he frequents with no success.
In addition, several hospitals were also searched on information received by the Intelligence Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) about his plans to be hospitalized.
Following a request by the CID on Tuesday, the Colombo Magistrate's Court T issued a warrant for the arrest of former Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne, who is accused of holding a media briefing on November 10 with two persons claiming to be involved in 'White Van' abductions.
The police had informed the Attorney General that there were sufficient grounds to arrest Rajitha Senaratne over the controversial White Van press conference. Accordingly, the Attorney General has instructed the CID to arrest the former Minister.
