Dec 13, Colombo: A Sri Lankan court today issued an overseas travel ban on former minister Patali Champika Ranawaka and his driver over a road accident case.

The Colombo Magistrate's Court issued the order in connection with a traffic accident which involved the former minister's vehicle assigned to his Ministry.

The order was issued after considering the submissions made by the Colombo Crimes Division to the courts.

The accident on 28 February 2016 at Sarana Mawatha in Rajagiriya, a suburb of Colombo where Ranawaka's vehicle collided with a motorcycle left two young men injured.

The former Minister has denied that he was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident. A person claimed to be the driver of the Ministry vehicle surrendered to the police following day. He was arrested and released on a Rs. 500,000 bail.

However, two witnesses have come forward claiming that it was the former minister at the wheels and they have submitted affidavits to the court.
