Tue, Dec 3, 2019, 11:23 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Dec 03, Colombo: Colombo Magistrate's court Tuesday further remanded the former Defense Secretary Hemasiri Fernando and IGP Pujith Jayasundara until December 17.

The two former top officials have been accused of failing to take measures to prevent the Easter Sunday attacks despite having prior knowledge of the attack, and remanded on charges of criminal negligence and murder.

When the case was taken up before Colombo Additional Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage today, the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) informed the court that further investigations are being conducted into the incident.

After considering the submissions, the Additional Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage ordered the two suspects to be remanded until the 19th of this month.

The CID informed the court that statements of around 10 police officers are scheduled to be record in this regard and requested the court to give time for investigations to be completed.

The Colombo Additional Magistrate accepted the request and ordered that the suspects be further remanded until the 17th of this month. The CID was ordered to submit a report on the progress of the investigations on that day.
