Dec 02, Colombo: Sri Lanka President Gotabaya Rajapaksa issuing a gazette notification has prorogued the Parliament by a month with effect from midnight Monday.
Accordingly the next session of parliament will commence at 10.00 a.m. on January 03, 2020.
The President has prorogued the parliament by virtue of the powers vested in him by Article 70 of the Constitution.
Secretary to the President P.B. Jayasundera has issued the relevant Extraordinary Gazette notification today.
Parliamentary sessions after the presidential election were scheduled to commence tomorrow (Dec 3).
