Aug 30, Colombo: The Sri Lanka Navy seized a suspicious fishing vessel and arrested four fishermen in the seas off Pulmudai yesterday (29).

During a search on fishing vessels a naval craft on routine patrol in the sea area off Pulmudai has spotted the suspicious fishing vessel (dinghy).

When Navy personnel tried to search the vessel, the suspicious dinghy has attempted to escape without complying with Navy's command. The Navy has fired warning shots and managed to stop the escaping dinghy.

Subsequent search carried out revealed that the suspects on the dinghy did not possess a valid fishing license, fishing gear or any other document that could prove their identity. Further, the Navy also found Rs. 50,000 in the possession of the suspects.

The suspects aged 19, 20, 25 and 48 years and their belongings were handed over to the Kuchchaveli Police for onward investigation.

Sri Lanka Navy continues the search of vessels engaged in fishing in Sri Lankan waters and it has successfully prevented a number of illegal acts as a result of the searches.
