Aug 22, Colombo: Sri Lanka Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe today (22) called on the party leaders of the United National Front to finalize the draft constitution of the Democratic National Front (DNF).
The Prime Minister has pointed out that at least he should get the alliance's draft constitution before signing an agreement to form a new alliance led by the United National Party (UNP) or naming a candidate for presidential election.
At the UNF party leader's meeting held recently at the official residence of Minister Rajitha Senaratne, it was agreed to prepare the final draft with the amendments to the constitution required to form the Alliance. Minister Rajitha Senaratne and UNP Chairman Kabir Hashim took the lead in the process.
However, the party leaders of the UNF have explained to the Prime Minister about the failure to make even the draft although it has been almost a week since the meeting.
The Prime Minister has further pointed out that once the constitutional draft for the formation of the Democratic National Front is received, the background will be prepared for the agreement of the alliance and the nomination of the candidate.
