Aug 22, Colombo: The Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka has decided to conduct an island wide survey on drones.
The authority has published the application for the census on its website www.caa.lk. About 500 drones are currently registered with the Civil Aviation Authority.
The purpose of this census is to obtain definitive information on registered drones to ascertain that those are still with the registered owners and to register unregistered drones.
Considering the security situation of the country after the Easter Sunday attacks, the Ministry of Defense has banned the operation of drones and other pilotless aircraft.
The Civil Aviation Authority said based on the census data it will request the Ministry of Defense to ease the ban on drones.
