* JVP to announce 'Candidate of people's anticipation' today

Aug 18, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) is scheduled to announce the party's candidate for the upcoming presidential election.

The presidential candidate of the National People's Power (NPP), the people's force of alternative politics, built with the JVP and several democratic, left and progressive political parties, civil society organizations and individuals, is to be announced to the country at a massive rally to be held in Galle Face Green today (18th) at 3.00 p.m.

The NPP says "a person with significant experience, a strong personality, who is against arbitrariness and corruption, loves the country and acceptable to all who hope for an alternative leader ship to the country" would be put forward as the presidential candidate.
