* People should make the right decision when electing a new President - Sarath Fonseka
Tue, Aug 13, 2019, 11:01 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Aug 13, Colombo: Parliamentarian Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka says people should make the right decision when selecting a new president and he is ready to support any candidate to be nominated by the Party leadership.

Speaking at a media briefing held in Rajagiriya today, Field marshal Fonseka said he would never support a Rajapaksa. He said that his attitudes over the Rajapaksas have not changed and no support will be extended to them. "I am not bankrupt enough to support a Rajapaksa," he said.

Sarath Fonseka noted that in this Presidential election many parties have forgotten current issues of the country and drawn attention on nominating Presidential candidates. He said the general public expects a strong President who can ensure security and expedite development.

Fonseka said he would stand by the decision of the leader of the UNP in regard to Presidential candidacy from the United National Front alliance.

If the right person is nominated, he will be committed to that person's victory but if an unqualified person is nominated, that commitment cannot be expected from him.

Responding to a question raised by a journalist, Sarath Fonseka said that if his name would be proposed, he would accept the responsibility of Presidential candidacy.
