Sun, May 26, 2019, 10:15 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

May 26, Colombo: Police Media Spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekara says that complaints, if any, against the arrested Obstetrician and Gynecologist (OB-GYN) Seigu Shiyabdeen at Kurunegala Teaching Hospital can be made to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

The OB-GYN doctor was arrested on Friday (May 24) by the Kurunegala Police under the charge of earning massive unexplained wealth.

Various parties are also complaining that the doctor has done unconsented sterilizations on women, who had undergone caesarean child births.

Dr. Shiyabdeen was handed over to the CID after his arrest and accordingly, the CID has commenced investigations into the incidents.

Sri Lanka Police have asked to forward relevant complaints against the doctor to the CID.

Meanwhile, Kurunegala Hospital has received five complaints against Dr. Shiyabdeen. Five women who were operated by the doctor, have lodged complaints with the Deputy Director of the hospital Dr. Chandana Kendangamuwa.

The women have stated that they have a suspicion about the doctor since they could not get pregnant after the caesarean operation and requested to conduct an inquiry.

It has been reported that the doctor has performed about 8,000 caesarean surgeries and had sterilized about half of the women by tubal ligation during the C-section.
