* Boosa Prison security strengthened as high-profile inmates transferred to the prison

May 26, Colombo: A number of high-profile inmates, who have been sentenced to death and life imprisonment for underworld crimes and drug trafficking and serving time in other prisons, have been transferred to Boossa Prison in Galle.

A spokesman of the Prison Headquarters said 13 inmates were transferred from Welikada and Mahara prisons to Boosa yesterday (May 25).

The Prison Department on the advice of the President and the Minister of Justice and Prison Reforms has decided to detain hardcore criminals and drug dealers separate from other prisoners, under extremely strict security at the Boosa prison.

According to the Prisons Department, underworld leader 'Susai', who is serving a life sentence, death row inmates 'Ward Place Kudu Shiyam' and a 'Gauthan' a subordinate of underworld leader 'Wele Suda' are among the inmates transferred to Boosa Prison.

Several more prisoners are due to be transferred in the coming days and 15 high security cells have been arranged for them at the Boosa Prison complex, the Prison Headquarters spokesman said.
