May 24, Colombo: The Police this evening (24) have arrested a person suspected of placing a parcel of hand grenades near a school in Baduraliya.

Police spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara said the suspect is identified as 32 year old Hapuarachchige Pavithra Madushanka, a resident of Hedigalla colony of Badureliya.

A security officer at the school found the parcel containing 13 hand grenades in the vicinity of a building at a school in Baduraliya last night.

The Principal of the school had informed the Baduraliya Police and the Army personnel had then arrived and removed the package from the premises of the school.

The government has ensured the security at the schools and urged the parents to send their children to schools while warning that some groups are attempting to sabotage school activities for narrow political gains.
