* MP Kavinda resigns from PSC looking into Easter Sunday attacks, Minister Rajitha and JVP MP Nalinda appointed instead

May 24, Colombo: United National Party (UNP) Parliamentarian Kavinda Jayawardena has resigned from the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) appointed to look into the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks on April 21.

Instead, Minister Rajitha Senaratne has been appointed from the government side and JVP Parliamentarian Nalinda Jayathissa has been appointed as a representative of the opposition.

Deputy Speaker Ananda Kumarasiri has been appointed the Chairman of the 9-member Parliamentary Select Committee.

The other members of the PSC are Minister Rauff Hakeem, Minister Ravi Karunanayake, Parliamentarians Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka, Prof. Ashu Marasinghe, Dr Jayampathi Wickramaratne and MA Sumanthiran.

The United People's Freedom Alliance General Secretary MP Mahinda Amaraweera said that UPFA will not be represented in the PSC.

Parliament approval was received for the setting up of this special Select Committee on Wednesday (22). The Prime Minister requested the Speaker to make the report of the PSC available within two weeks.
