* UNP to appoint a PSC to investigate allegations against Minister Bathiudeen

May 21, Colombo: The parliamentary group of the United National Party (UNP), government's ruling party, has decided today to appoint a Parliamentary Select Committee to conduct a broad investigation in to the allegations leveled against Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiudeen.

The decision to conduct an investigation was arrived at a special meeting held today at the Parliamentary complex.

The Select Committee will be appointed representing all the parties in Parliament.

Parliamentarian Thushara Indunil said if Minister Bathiudeen is found guilty in the inquiry to be conducted by the Select Committee, the UNP-led United National Front (UNF) will vote in favor of the no-confidence motion that has been brought against the Minister.

The Joint Opposition has submitted a no-confidence motion, with the signatures of 64 MPs against the Minister of Industry & Commerce, Resettlement of Protracted Displaced Persons, Co-operative Development and Vocational Training & Skills Development Rishad Bathiudeen.

The Minister himself called for a Parliamentary Select Committee to clear his name of the allegations made against him in the aftermath of the Easter Sunday suicide bombings on April 21 by the Muslim extremist group National Thowheed Jamath.
